🌱 $58.2B Spending Plan For MD Education + Local Dinosaur Park

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Laurel.

(Patch Media)

Happy Saturday, people of Laurel! Let's get this day started off right. Here's everything you need to know about what's happening around Laurel today.

First, today's weather:

Windy with plenty of sunshine. High: 46 Low: 16.

Here are the top three stories today in Laurel:

  1. Perfect Day has gone undefeated through two starts, each race by open lengths. He will put that perfect record to the test today when he makes his stakes debut in the $100,000 Miracle Wood at Laurel Park. The one-mile Miracle Wood is the latest in Maryland's stakes series for 3-year-olds. (Past The Wire)
  2. Gov. Larry Hogan recently unveiled a $58.2 billion spending plan last month that increased state education funding. However, advocates and lawmakers claim that he excluded funds slated to go to some of the state's most underfunded school systems. Around $125.5 million of the funding at issue is specifically intended for the Baltimore City and Prince George's County school systems. (WTOP)
  3. Bowie State University will host the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) men's and women's basketball tournament. Students, alumni, faculty and administrators are eager to welcome fans from across the nation to the games! This will be a classic winter HBCU sporting event that will be held in Baltimore from Feb. 22, through Feb. 27. (Bowie State)
