Here are the top three stories today in Laurel:
- Disco Pharoah drove away from six others down the stretch to win the $100,000 Frank Whiteley by 3 ¼ lengths over Mohaafeth. The Whiteley is the first race in the 2022 Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred Championship (MATCH) Series that continues with races at Laurel, Colonial Downs and Penn National before its Oct. 3 finale at Parx. - Luna Belle rolled down the stretch of her two-turn debut and straight into next month's Black-Eyed Susan with her fifth consecutive stakes victory in Saturday's $125,000 Weber City Miss at Laurel Park. The Weber City Miss for 3-year-old fillies going about 1 1/16 miles served as co-headliner with the $125,000 Federico Tesio for 3-year-olds among four stakes worth $450,000 in purses on the first of back-to-back Spring Stakes Spectacular Saturdays at Laurel. - Violent crime is on the rise in Prince George's County. People gathered recently at the Creative Suitland Arts Center to discuss plans to stop the rising crime. While murders in Prince George's County are up over a couple years ago, they are trending down this year. (WTOP)
