Disease-transmitting mosquitoes and ticks are found throughout all of Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia. Deer ticks—also known as Blacklegged ticks— are largely responsible for more than 300,000 reported cases of Lyme disease each year, with the majority of those cases occurring in the mid-Atlantic. Meanwhile, instances of mosquito-borne viruses like Zika and West Nile continue to make headlines across the country, including in Maryland with 12 confirmed cases of Zika Virus reported as of April 29.

With mosquitoes and ticks expected to become a problem for homeowners in April, American Pest has seen a heightened concern from area homeowners. Compared to this time last year, American Pest has seen a 37 percent increase in calls and a 31 percent increase in online service inquiries.

As American Pest Entomologists assist research facilities, helping conduct mosquito sampling as part of an effort to discover new measures to prevent the spread of so-called ‘vector diseases,’ the Mosquito and Tick Control program provides homeowners an immediate plan of action.
