(washingtonpost.com) — A once-stray tuxedo kitten who was stolen from a Beltsville pet store and briefly used in an attempted bank robbery is now settled into a calm new life in Laurel. Adopted by a local resident as a companion for another cat, Magnolia spends her days playing, sunbathing, and enjoying treats, far from her bizarre brush with crime.
   

• Police Press Release - August 27, 2026 (aacounty.org) — Police in Anne Arundel County report a carjacking at a Taco Bell on Ritchie Highway and a separate weapons arrest in Severn, where officers say they found a loaded handgun during a traffic stop. The driver arrested on the weapons charge is listed as a 34-year-old resident of Laurel which may concern locals following regional crime and enforcement activity.
