MD buys 15 acres of land next to Appalachian Trail and South Mountain State Park (tristatealert.com) β State officials have approved funding to build a new 7-acre park at Anderson Corner in the City of Laurel, featuring an inclusive playground, trails, courts, and a pavilion. The grants come through Maryland's Program Open Space, which also supports recreation projects in several other counties. The same meeting funded land acquisition next to South Mountain State Park to protect the Appalachian Trail corridor.

Laurel Shooting, Two Vehicle Thefts Reported in Howard County Crime Bulletin (shorenewsnetwork.com) β Police say a man was shot in the leg during an altercation at a Laurel residence on Livery Lane Thursday morning, and a suspect is already in custody with charges pending. The victim's injuries are described as non-life-threatening. Overnight, a 2024 Honda Civic was reported stolen from Blues Alley in Laurel, alongside other vehicle-related crimes in Columbia and Ellicott City.

New MARC train will link Montgomery County and Baltimore (fox5dc.com) β Laurel riders will soon get a new transfer-free MARC connection linking the city directly with Rockville, Gaithersburg, College Park, and Baltimore starting September 28. The reconfigured line, created by adjusting existing service, is expected to cut some Central Maryland commutes by up to an hour and significantly expand options for Laurel-area rail commuters.
