The combined company will keep significant engineering and manufacturing operations in Laurel, aiming to deliver more integrated antenna and amplifier systems for radar, satellite communications, electronic warfare, and counter-drone programs.
• Industrial Torch Fuels Faster Development of Materials for Extreme Environments (jhuapl.edu) — Engineers at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel have adapted an industrial high-velocity oxygen-fuel torch to quickly screen materials for extreme heat and high-speed conditions. Their work could speed development of hypersonic and aerospace materials by shifting early testing to this lower-cost local setup, reserving scarce national test facilities for only the most promising candidates.
• Undocumented immigrant who resided in Maryland dies in ICE custody in Louisiana (fox5dc.com) — A 47-year-old man who had been living in Laurel died in ICE custody at a Louisiana medical center after being found in medical distress at a detention facility. ICE says the cause of death remains unknown pending an autopsy, while Sen. Chris Van Hollen is calling for an independent investigation amid broader scrutiny of deaths in immigration detention.
