Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:

  1. On Monday (July 12) afternoon, officers were called to the 7100 block of Virginia Manor Court in Laurel for the report of an armed robbery and shooting. A male suspect, armed with a handgun, approached a security service delivery driver, disarmed him, then demanded he hand over the U.S. Currency deposit bag he was holding. The victim complied and then the suspect fired one shot at him before fleeing the scene. This is an ongoing investigation, and we strongly encourage anyone with any information to contact the Laurel Police Department at 301-498-0092. Anonymous tips can be sent to LPDtips@laurel.md.us. (City of Laurel)
  2. In a ceremony Tuesday, 14 employees of National Harbor-area businesses were recognized for their hard work during the pandemic. They were named "Harbor Heroes" and awarded $100 to spend at participating National Harbor establishments. (WTOP)
  3. Governor Larry Hogan today, in conjunction with the Maryland Department of Disabilities, announced the release of the new Maryland State Disabilities Plan, a roadmap for changing the lives of Marylanders with disabilities for the better. (Maryland.gov)
