Here are the top five stories in Laurel today:
- The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Commission has approved partnerships between casinos and sportsbooks. The state panel with the final say on the matter hasn't taken action on the applications yet. But it has requested that the casinos provide more information. According to John Martin, director of the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, the approval is good news for the state. (Eye On Annapolis)
- Miss Leslie returned to her multiple stakes-winning form after five straight off-the-board finishes. She outran long shots Lookin Dynamic and Villanelle to win Saturday's $100,000 Thirty Eight Go Go at Laurel Park. Miss Leslie ($4) was ridden by jockey Angel Cruz, who escaped injury after being unseated during Saturday's third race. (Paulick Report)
- ARS Rescue Rooter of Laurel, continued to honor the Veterans Day holiday by surprising an Army veteran with a brand new HVAC system and water heater for his family. Carl Jeanty, a retired Chief Warrant Officer III who served for over 20 years, said he feels blessed to be a United States citizen and is proud to have served the country. (WDVM 25)
- Mayor Craig A. Moe is sorry to announce the passing of Teddy R. Dulaney, former City of Laurel Director of the Department of Public Works. Dulaney began his career with the City in the Department of Public Works in 1985 as a Laborer II. He was appointed Director of Public Works by Mayor Moe in 2002 where he served until his retirement in 2007. Throughout his career, Ted was a team player who enjoyed his work. (City of Laurel)
- Amazon's "last mile" delivery stations are coming to the D.C. area with a station in Laurel! The company opened a new one in Beltsville in late October, and has opened two more last week in Landover and Laurel. The Laurel facility, at 14601 Sweitzer Lane, is 150,000-square-feet. Amazon also recently opened delivery stations in Lanham and Upper Marlboro. (WTOP)

- UMD Counseling Center Workshop: Coping Skills — The Coping Skills Series will help participants develop a broad range of coping skills applicable to daily life, including managing stress, emotions, and uncertainty, as well as take a deeper dive into the practice of mindfulness. Today, the focus will be on "Taking Control of Your Thoughts." Attendees will learn how to control their thoughts so they are not controlling them. This workshop will provide concrete techniques for recognizing, understanding, and altering unhelpful patterns of thinking. (4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.)
