Bar Blaze on Route 1 Draws Firefighters from 3 Counties, Officials Say
A police officer on routine patrol first saw smoke coming from the restaurant on Washington Boulevard, Howard County officials reported.
NORTH LAUREL, MD — Firefighters from three counties responded to a bar fire Wednesday morning on Washington Boulevard/US 1 in North Laurel, according to the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.
At 3 a.m., a Howard County police officer on routine patrol radioed in that there was smoke coming from Sam and Elsie's in the 9900 block of Washington Boulevard.
Crews from Anne Arundel, Howard and Prince George's counties responded, finding a small fire in the bar area and quickly putting it out. They proceeded to ventilate the building.

Sam and Elsie's will remain closed until it receives clearance from the health department to reopen, officials said.
The Howard County fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
