🌱 Bowie High Student Excels In Business + Easter Egg Hunt At Baysox

Here are the top three stories today in Laurel:
- The July 19 primary election is only a few months away. Maryland gubernatorial hopefuls continue to try to persuade voters that they are the right person to lead the state. Five of the 10 Democratic candidates participated in a one-hour forum Sunday at the American Legion Post 136 in Greenbelt. Governor Larry Hogan's second four-year term is set to expire in January. Konrad Herling, president of the Eleanor & Franklin Roosevelt Democratic Club, which hosted the forum, said there's one main goal for this year's election: "Put everything we have into the effort to get a Democrat elected governor." - According to Patch reporter Kristin Danley-Greiner, Easter Egg Hunt Sunday at Baysox Ballpark tickets are on sale now. People are invited to participate in a pregame Easter egg hunt at the Bowie Baysox ballpark Sunday starting at 10:00 a.m. The hunt is designed for kids ages 12 and under. Stadium gates will open at 10:30 a.m. for check-in. Everyone must have a ticket to enter the ballpark for the egg hunt, including adults. (Patch)
- Kaci Harris, a student who attends Bowie High School, is the owner of KM Beauty based out of Bowie. The business specializes in eyelash extensions. She does "individual eyelashes, all different styles, classic, hybrid, volume". Harris began doing eyelashes two years ago after taking a course in lashes under a professional cosmetologist. Since then, she has earned a $500 award from the Psi Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. to support her business. The award is part of an effort to support young Black entrepreneurship. (WTOP)

- National Wildlife Week at Petworth Neighborhood Library in NW D.C.—Celebrate National Wildlife Week with fun take-home animal crafts. Excited to learn more about the world's wildlife? Pick up a fun animal craft, learn about National Wildlife Week, and find out how to access educational wildlife shows using the library's digital resources. Bags are available on the second floor of the library in the Children's Room. Bags include an information sheet, instructions and supplies. Recommended for ages 5-12. (10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.)
- Preschool Storytime in Maryland City at Russett Library (11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.)
- Photography & Words: A Workshop for Family Caregivers in Tenley-Friendship Neighborhood Library—This workshop is for family caregivers and others who want to learn a way to help with any loved ones who need care. In conjunction with IONA Senior Services, we offer "Photography & Words: A Workshop for Family Caregivers". It is a four-part workshop offers family caregivers an opportunity to process the day-to-day experience, as well as a time for reflection. Sharing archival images and making new ones, participants add words and find a space for conversation, listening and enjoying a time-out. Anyone is welcome to join the group. It is ideal if you are currently a caregiver, but participants can relate the material to any loved one. Materials and cameras provided. Karen Ruckman is a photographer and workshop teacher. She has worked in the nation's capital photographing decision makers. Emma Pearce is a D.C.-based producer, writer, and editor for PhotoChange Productions. (3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
- Lego Challenge at Georgetown Neighborhood Library in NW D.C.—Join us for a drop-in afternoon to build Lego buildings and complete weekly challenges. Each week a new challenge will be set up. Are you up to making a dream house or a flying machine out of Legos? Stop by and find out! Recommended for ages 5 and up and their caregivers. (3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.)
- Tuesday Happy Hour & Open Mic at 5 Sisters Restaurant in Laurel (4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.)
- Antiracism Series: "Teaching High School English in Prince George's County"—The Antiracism: Communities + Collaborations series and the Committee for Antiracism, Accessibility, Respect, Equity and Social Justice (CAARES) co-present "Teaching High School English in Prince George's County", featuring Jasmine Winters and Brittni Guevara. (5:00 p.m.)
- Spring Herbed Wreaths at Pherm Brewing Company in Gambrills—Join us for a fun night of Spring Wreath Making! Meg Richardson, with Something's Blooming Annapolis, will be at the brewery to teach us how to make a fragrant and beautiful wreath to welcome Spring! Using lavender, rosemary and eucalyptus, this wreath is simply amazing! You will learn step-by-step to make your own herbed wreath and how to care for it in your home. All materials will be provided for you. So, call the girls and join us for a fun night out! (6:00 p.m.)
- Piano Jazz at Tagliata in Baltimore—To complement the restaurant's menu and decor, guests will be able to hear some of Baltimore's most talented musicians play Tagliata's 1926 Steinway piano 7 nights a week in the lounge. - Modern Calligraphy at Kelsey's Restaurant in Ellicott City—Join us at Kelsey's Restaurant in Ellicott City for a night of cocktails and pretty lettering! Whether you're a stationery nerd, DIY Bride-to-be, or just a crafty individual, in this workshop you'll be learning an introduction to modern calligraphy with a pointed dip pen and ink. We will cover all the basics and get you ready to add those special lettered details to your snail mail, wedding paper goods, home decor and more! The perfect crafty night out! - Elani Nichelle Takes Over Public Laughs in NW D.C.—Attend this stand up comedy show where Elani Nichelle invites her favorite comics to perform with her at Public Laughs! Elani is a three-year DMV comic who co-hosts Double EE comedy once a month with Elliot Bromberg. Elani's relatable comedy about what it means to be a twenty-something trying to make it has been bringing laughs in person and online. (7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.)
- First Tuesdays Open Mic at Busboys and Poets, hosted by Twain Dooley in NW D.C.—Expect a diverse chorus of voices, and a vast array of professional spoken word performers, open mic rookies, musicians and a different host every week. Expect to be moved, expect a packed house, expect the unexpected, but above all come with an open mind and ear. (8:00 p.m.)
