Jessup, MD May 16, 2013— The students and staff of Patuxent Valley Middle School invite you to our Reader’s Café, a night to celebrate reading. Students will prepare and serve dinner in our Bulldog Restaurant from 5:00 pm – 6:15 pm. This is a ticketed event and limited to 300 people. Tickets are available first to our students and their families. There is no charge for the ticket.
The Exhibit Hall opens at 5:30. A variety of student activities and displays will inform and entertain all ages. The highlight of the exhibit hall will be our Reader’s Café where student authors will be available to read from a “menu” of there written works. Other exhibits include Playful Puppets, Loquacious Labyrinths, Laughable Lipograms, Puzzling Pieces the Performing Professors and lessons from our North Bay instructors ,”Tapping into Trees”, “Gentle Gardening” and “Vital Vultures”, as well as a discussion with two different published authors. One of those authors is our very own sixth grade student, Caroyln Neuman, who will be discussing her first published novel, Adventures with the Winglets.
The night will culminate in a presentation by our guest author, Derrick Barnes, author of We Could Be Brothers. The themes of this novel include self-respect, brotherhood, respect of young ladies, countering negative images of African American boys in pop culture, and the positive affects of mentoring. Coming to us from Kansas City, Derrick will discuss his path to becoming an author and share with us his vision for America’s youth.
