Morning, Laurel! Let's get this Wednesday started off right. Here's everything you need to know today in town.

First, today's weather:

Rain; mixed with snow early. High: 42 Low: 32.

Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:

  1. According to Jesse James Swann, chief of the Piscataway Conoy Tribe, the name of Indian Head Highway and the town of Indian Head in Prince George's County are derogatory to Native Americans and should be changed. Swann recently wrote a letter to Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks requesting the change. (WTOP)
  2. Governor Larry Hogan recently issued an executive order creating the Maryland Behavioral Health and Public Safety Center of Excellence Advisory Group. According to Lt. Governor Boyd K. Rutherford, chairman, "the creation of the Maryland Behavioral Health and Public Safety Center of Excellence Advisory Group will ensure the vital work of the Commission's efforts to address the mental and behavioral health needs of our citizens involved in the judicial system will continue beyond our administration." (Maryland.gov)
  3. The latest film of Melvin Jackson Jr., "I'm a Survivor No Longer A Victim," has been slated for a 2022 Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Documentary as well as for Outstanding Director. The film delivers a powerful message about domestic violence survivors and focuses on women, men, and the LBGTQ community. There are more than 10 million adults in the United States who experience domestic violence yearly. (Bowie State)
