Here are the top stories today in Laurel:
- According to Kristin Danley-Greiner, Patch Staff, law enforcement agencies across the country will be teaming up to reinforce the "Slow Down - Move Over" campaign today through Sunday. The goal is to protect first responders and road workers who have dangerous jobs along the side of busy roadways. Maryland State Police and others will work this weekend to remind drivers that they are to slow down and move over when approaching stopped emergency vehicles with their emergency lights activated. - A person is dead after a garbage truck overturned in Prince George's County Thursday afternoon. The truck overturned near the intersection of Maryland Route 410/East-West Highway and U.S. Route 1. One person was killed when they were pinned under the fallen vehicle. (WTOP)
- Bowie State University recently announced the 2022 Bulldog Pitch Competition Winners. The $12,000 first place winner and crowd favorite winner was Johnathan Gorum, a senior business major. Kenia Best, a junior business major, placed second in the competition with "Your Very Own" (a skincare line). The third place winner was Agbo Idoko, a graduate student who developed a web-platform using state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms to produce artworks used to create crypto currency tokens that can be digitally traded.
