🌱 BSU Students Place In National Competition + Sweet Mood Monday

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Laurel.

(Patch Media)

Welcome back, Laurel! Let's get this Monday started. Here's everything worth knowing in town today.

First, today's weather:

Warmer with clouds and sun. High: 76 Low: 49.

Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:

  1. The Maryland Board of Public Works recently approved more than $5.2 million to advance the state's commitment to preserve the legacy of Carr's Beach as a new Annapolis public park. The land has been identified as part of the property once owned by the Carr family and is close to popular resorts on the Chesapeake Bay that served Black people when they were prohibited from using other beaches. (Maryland.gov)
  2. Bowie State University (BSU) graduate students Carolyn Thorpe, Rachel Wagner and Nala Lovett, under the guidance of Dr. Kimberly Mills, BSU Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling, used what they have learned at BSU to come to team-based ethical resolutions and won second place in the National 2022 Graduate Student Ethics Awards for Master's Degree Students. The aim of the competition is to "recognize exceptional, demonstrable understanding of the ACA Code of Ethics, the foundation of ethical professional counseling practice." (Bowie State)
  3. One man died and another was placed under arrest after a fatal stabbing that happened on the 1100 block of Southview Drive in Oxon Hill in Prince George's County. Police arrived to the area on Friday and found a man outside who had been stabbed several times. The man arrested by police was taken to the hospital for an injury. (WTOP)
