🌱 Bureau of Engraving And Printing Moves To MD + Apt. Fire In MD City

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Laurel.

(Patch Media)

Hey, Laurel! Here's everything you need to know to get this Friday started off right.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sunshine, but cool. High: 63 Low: 34.

Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:

  1. Anne Arundel County fire officials battled a fire Thursday morning at an apartment in Maryland City. Firefighters were called to Horizon Square Apartments in the 3400 block of Laurel-Fort Meade Road. Fire investigators said firefighters reported fire visible from a third-floor apartment balcony. The bulk of the fire was quickly extinguished. (WBAL TV Baltimore)
  2. According to AAA, the national average of gas is $4.13 and it's going up daily, affecting everyone including Laurel residents and surrounding areas. Larry Stewart of Salisbury said, "Gas price is one way and the next day it's up. You just don't know what to do. You need gas to survive and to get around and do things that you need to do. However, you're just uncertain as to what you can do with the gas prices. One day it's $3, next day it's $4, now it's $4.25. It's just a crazy thing." (WBOC TV 16)
  3. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing will soon move out of downtown D.C. and relocate to Beltsville Agricultural Research Center that sits along Powder Mill Road in Maryland. It's a result of Prince George's County luring federal buildings and the jobs they bring in. "It's an enormously important project for the county," said David Iannucci, president and CEO of Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation. "We'll take great pride in the idea that one of the two places in the United States [where] currency is going to be printed is going to be in Prince George's County." (WTOP)
