Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:
1. Jennifer Jones Bryant, founder of her own career coaching business based in Upper Marlboro, is helping the unemployed who seek her help during job searches. She's the executive founder of "Reaching From Within, an Empowerment Journey." Bryant has been working with small business development centers during the COVID-19 pandemic to help people get back to work. (WTOP)
2. Maryland reported 1,027 new COVID-19 cases and 14 deaths, according to state health department data released on Sept. 6. Doctors say the new cases are fueled by dangerous strains targeting the unvaccinated. During an August press conference, Gov. Larry Hogan said the Delta variant, a strain that is reportedly two to four times more contagious than the original virus strain, accounts for nearly every new confirmed case in Maryland. (CBS Baltimore)
3. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, spoke to CNN on Sunday. Dr. Fauci said there's an important step adults can take to protect children who are too young to be vaccinated against COVID-19. That step is to be vaccinated. He said that the way to protect unvaccinated children is to surround those children with vaccinated people. (CNN)
