(Patch Media)

Happy Monday, Laurel! Here's what's going on in town today.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny; breezy, cooler. High: 46 Low: 28.

Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:

  1. Here's the latest in horse racing news: Pickin' Time won City of Laurel Stakes at Laurel Park! Pickin' Time swept to the lead on the outside around the far turn and had plenty left to turn back a bid from He'smyhoneybadger nearing the wire for a 1¼-length victory in Saturday's $100,000 City of Laurel at Laurel Park. (Paulick Report)
  2. An apartment fire in Langley Park displaced 45 people (28 adults and 17 children) on Thanksgiving Day. Prince George's County Fire officials said the fire began in a kitchen inside of a four-story apartment building shortly before noon in the 2220 block of University Boulevard. Crews were able to put out the fire by early Thursday afternoon. (WTOP)
  3. Governor Larry Hogan said that the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) will make 500,000 Abbott BinaxNOW Ag At-Home COVID-19 test kits available. MDH is already distributing these test kits to local health departments. They will be available free of charge at designated locations in their jurisdictions. This effort will increase public access to convenient COVID-19 tests ahead of the holiday season and throughout winter. Local health departments will make announcements regarding the availability of testing kits. Gov. Hogan said, "Testing continues to be one of the most important tools we have to keep people safe...by making these at-home test kits available through local health departments, we are giving Marylanders more options and more peace of mind."
