The quickest way to get caught up on everything worth knowing around town today.

Happy Wednesday, people of Laurel! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note.
First, today's weather:
Mostly sunny. High: 68 Low: 42.
Here are the top five stories in Laurel today:
- Last-minute redistricting plans, accusations of gerrymandering, and drama have ensued during the redistricting proceedings in Prince George's County these last few months. For those who may not know, redistricting is the process of redrawing legislative district lines, following the national Census. It happens every 10 years at the federal, state and local levels. The way that district lines are drawn can determine who is eligible to run for office, what political party they are in, whether certain neighborhoods or community interests will be adequately represented, and whether some Black, Latinx, and low-income communities will have a fair opportunity to elect representatives of their choice. (Greater Greater Washington)
- Gov. Larry Hogan has declared Nov. 8 to Nov. 14 as "Crash Responder Safety Week" in Maryland. This is an effort to protect first responders at accident scenes. The Maryland Department of Transportation's State Highway Administration, the Maryland Transportation Authority, the MDTA Police and the Motor Vehicle Administration jointly are reminding motorists to stay alert, move over and slow down when approaching first responders and traffic incidents. (CBS Baltimore)
- The annual Bea Gaddy Thanksgiving dinner in Baltimore is soon approaching! Hot holiday meals will be served to the homeless and poor. Currently, inmates from the Maryland Correctional Institution in Hagerstown are preparing over 200 Thanksgiving turkeys. The turkeys will be shipped out from the Maryland Correctional Enterprises Meat Plant in Hagerstown to Baltimore for the annual Bea Gaddy Thanksgiving meal. (LocalDVM)
- Prince George's Councilmember Monique Anderson-Walker recently stepped down from her county post. She announced the news via Facebook on Monday morning. This news comes less than two weeks after she was chosen to run for lieutenant governor alongside Comptroller Peter V.R. Franchot. According to Anderson-Walker, she made this decision because the rigors of this statewide campaign required her full attention. (WTOP)
- As the nation prepares to honor Veterans Day, Governor Larry Hogan recently urged U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen to support bipartisan legislation to authorize the construction of a Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) Memorial on the National Mall. Gov. Hogan said, "Since the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, more than 7,000 U.S. service members — including 126 Marylanders — have died in military operations in the Global War on Terror. ... A memorial on the National Mall would give the families of the fallen a place to mourn and remember, and it would give current and future generations an opportunity to reflect on the true cost of freedom."
