Dirt Bike Rider Injured in North Laurel Crash: HCPD

Two-vehicle crash in Howard County sent unlicensed driver to shock trauma, Howard County police reported.

LAUREL, MD – The Howard County Police Department is investigating a crash involving a dirt bike and minivan that sent a Jessup man to the hospital.

Nicholas Walker, 25, of Jessup, was taken Saturday night to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where police said he was listed as stable on Sunday.

According to police, Walker—who had no license and was not wearing a helmet—had been driving a dirt bike that was unsuitable for the road and had no headlight when it was hit by a Honda Odyssey at approximately 8:55 p.m. near North Laurel.

The Odyssey had been headed west on Scaggsville Road, turning left onto Harding Road, when it collided with the dirt bike, which had been traveling east on Scaggsville Road, police reported.

The intersection of Scaggsville at Harding roads was closed for approximately one hour as officials responded to the scene, police said.

Laurel residents Stuart Shaw, 63, who was driving the Honda, and his passenger, Maryann Shaw, 64, were uninjured, according to police.

No charges have been filed against either party, police said Sunday, noting that the investigation was ongoing.
