Driver Critical After Vehicle Overturns on Route 216: Police
Police said the vehicle hit two light poles and a guardrail before turning over.

LAUREL, MD — A driver is in critical condition following a crash Monday on MD 216 that flipped his car and caused a two-and-a-half hour road closure, police said.
Genar M. Grijlva Gonzalez, 28, of Snow Acres Drive in Laurel, was not wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred before 12:45 p.m. on Monday, officials reported. He was driving a Ford Mustang east on MD 216 when for unknown reasons, his vehicle left the road, hit two light poles and a guardrail, then overturned near Stephens Road, police said.
Route 216 was closed to eastbound traffic at Stephens Road for more than two hours. No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Gonzalez was taken to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where authorities said he was listed Tuesday in critical condition.
