Driver Died After Route 216 Crash: Police

BREAKING: Preliminary investigation has revealed two potential factors in the fatal crash, Howard County police report.

The driver whose car overturned on MD 216 on Monday has died, police said.

Genar M. Grijlva Gonzalez, 28, of Snow Acres Drive, was pronounced deceased Tuesday afternoon, officials reported. Gonzalez had been taken to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center on Monday after his Ford Mustang left eastbound Route 216 at a high rate of speed, hit two light poles and a guardrail, then overturned near Stephens Road, police said.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash but have determined that speed and alcohol may be factors. Police also said Gonzalez was not wearing a seatbelt.
