Good morning, people of Laurel! It's me again, Alexis Goring, your host of the Laurel Daily.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny and cooler. High: 52 Low: 36.

Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:

  1. Honorable H. Edward "Eddie" Ricks who was a former Councilmember, Laurel City Council President, and a true public servant, has passed away. He served the City for over 55 years. Ricks was born in Cheverly but lived in Laurel his entire life. He served on the Laurel City Council from 1980 to 1988, and again in November 2011 to November 2019. Residents said that Ricks was a very good listener, dedicated to his position as an elected official and always ready to help a friend or constituent in their time of need. He was known for his dedication to the community. (City of Laurel)
  2. Maryland-bred champions Joe and Luna Belle, both riding three-race win streaks, repeat champion Jaxon Traveler and multiple stakes winners Threes Over Deuces, Kiss the Girl and Whereshetoldmetogo are among 98 nominations to five stakes worth $450,000 in purses Saturday, March 19 at Laurel Park. The Elkstone Group's Joe, a Maryland homebred son of Declaration of War, tops 19 nominees to the $100,000 Private Terms. (Laurel Park)
  3. Police are offering a $25,000 reward for leads that result in an arrest of the person who shot and killed a Maryland man last weekend. Prince George's Police patrol officers were called to a location in Chillum on Saturday for a report of a shooting. The officers found the victim, Efrain Huerta Moran of Chillum, with multiple gunshot wounds dead at the scene. (WTOP)
