Here are the top three stories today in Laurel:
- The city of Laurel will receive a grant through The Recycling Partnership and American Beverage Association to expand its recycling program as part of the Every Bottle Back initiative. This is an initiative led by the beverage industry with goals of reducing the industry's plastic footprint and keep bottles out of nature. The $112,465 investment will help to provide Laurel residents with 7,150 65-gallon lidded curbside recycling carts for free. (Waste Today Magazine)
- According to Deb Belt, Patch reporter, Kohl's (the popular department store that has a location in Laurel) has been offered an acquisition deal by retail competitor JCPenney for a hefty $8.6 billion. Simon Property and Brookfield Asset Management have offered $68 a share to acquire the retailer. The JCPenney and Kohl's brands would remain separate. (Patch)
- Juvenile racing returns to Laurel Park for the first time this year with a 4 ½-furlong maiden special weight sprint for fillies that kicks off Saturday's nine-race program. Seven first-time starters were entered in the main track event including a pair from Laurel-based trainer Jerry Robb. (Past The Wire)
