Happy Saturday, people of Laurel! Here's everything you need to know to start today off on an informed note. Here's everything happening today in town.

First, today's weather: Possible light rain and humid throughout the day. High: 84 Low: 69.


Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:

1. Prince George's County is fining a market in Upper Marlboro for operating in violation of its mask mandate. Signs greeting customers at the Village Dutch Market read "This is a mask free environment" and "Shop at your own risk." Most of the employees were not wearing masks on Thursday; most of the customers were. (WTOP)

2. Prince George's County is now offering third doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines to immunocompromised residents. The vaccinations are free and no appointments are necessary. The clinic will be held at the Sports and Learning Complex in Landover. (WTOP)

3. Jon Dorenbos who was a two-time NFL Pro Bowler as a long snapper for the Philadelphia Eagles, is sharing his message of optimism with others. Today, Dorenbos will perform his inspiring magic show at MGM National Harbor. He said the show is his life story that is motivating, inspiring and mind-blowing. (WTOP)

  • Backpack Distribution at Oaklands Elementary — If you are a student who attends Oaklands Elementary School, you and your family may attend the Annual Back to School Block Party today on the school black top! There will be free backpacks filled with grade level requested supplies, homeroom teacher information, snacks, music, and giveaways! Masks are required for all adults and children. (10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.)
  • Back to School: Backpack Giveaway Event — Dare 2 B Different Mentoring, the Braxton Foundation, and Grind Hard Dream Big will be giving away school supplies, backpacks, refreshments, bottles of water, and chips to kids K-12. (12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.)
  • Laurel Dutch Country Farmers Market — Open on 9701 Fort Meade Road (8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.)
  • And The Winner Is 2021 Dance Recital Join Dance Dynamix for a private recital celebrating our dancers courage, commitment, and amazing character! (12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)
