Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:
1. According to Deb Belt, reporter for Patch, federal health officials have approved COVID-19 vaccinations for Maryland children ages 5-11. The CDC authorization for younger children makes about 515,000 Maryland kids immediately eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. According to Governor Larry Hogan's office, since late October, state health officials began ordering an initial 180,00 Pfizer doses for 5- to 11-year-olds. They have been working with pediatricians, pharmacies, school systems, local health departments, and the Vaccine Equity Task Force. (Patch)
2. The City of Laurel hosted its General Election Tuesday. The results of the election will be confirmed tonight at a special mayor and city council meeting may be viewed online starting at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom. 3. Rental housing developer Greystar, in a public/private partnership with the University of Maryland College Park's nonprofit arm, has broken ground on a new, $140 million, 788-bed student housing community. This nine-story tall building will have 348-apartment units. It will include floor plans from studios to four bedroom units, each with a private bath for each student. (WTOP)

- Twisted Tales of Poe | The Radio Play — An exciting theatrical telling of four "hair-raising" stories from Edgar Allan Poe, in the form of a staged radio drama, complete with cues for sound effects and music. (7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.)
- Las Cantoras Album Release Party — Venezuelan architect and folklorist Oswaldo Lares recorded more than 1,000 tracks of rural songs throughout his native Venezuela. Through this unique collaboration, the two will release a rarely seen side of Venezuela. This virtual album release party includes dynamic conversation and album teasers of Las Cantoras. As part of this album release party, Machado will conduct a virtual residency with The Clarice live from Venezuela and visit with ethnomusicology and Spanish literature students at the University of Maryland.
