Grassroots Holds Safe Space Training on September 20
Focus Is On LGBQ+ Individuals and Their Risk For Suicide

Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center is holding a Safe Space Training on Thursday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., at the NonProfit Collaborative in Columbia. Designed as a suicide and intervention model that focuses on the LGBQ+ population and their increased risk for suicide, the training includes multimedia, activities and open discussion.
The training will include a discussion of sexuality and gender specific issues and their impact on mental health, as well as guidance on creating a Safe Space without organizations and communities.
A light breakfast will be available at 8:30 a.m., and a lunch will be provided. The training is free but registration is required by calling 410-531-6006, ext. 761. The NonProfit Collaborative is located at 9770 Patuxent Woods Drive.

Grassroots provides the county’s only emergency shelter and 24-hour crisis intervention services. Professional crisis counselors staff Grassroots’ 24-hour hotline; see walk-in clients in need of immediate counseling; and operate the Mobile Crisis Team, which responds with the police to community emergencies. Grassroots also manages the county's emergency shelter for men, women and families who are homeless and serves as the single point of entry for the Coordinated System of Homeless Services. In addition, Grassroots operates the Day Resource Center in the Leola Dorsey Community Resource Center and manages the Cold Weather Shelter during the winter months.
