On heels of Pope Francis Visit, Verizon Launches HopeLine Drive

Old Phones Being Collected & Recycled by HopeLine to Benefit Catholic Charities of Washington, DC

On the heels of Pope Francis’ historic first visit to the U.S., and coinciding with October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Verizon is launching a HopeLine recycling drive to benefit Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington, DC.

For more than 80 years, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington, DC, has been serving people of all faiths and backgrounds in the District, Calverty County, Charles County, Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, and St. Mary’s County, MD. Its services reach more than 100,000 of our region’s most vulnerable residents and its program focus on restoring family peace, reducing poverty and building community.

To commemorate the visit of the Pope, Catholic Charities launched the #WalkwithFrancis pledge program and asked the local community to take a pledge to send a powerful message of hope, community, and service to the Pope by signing up to help those in need. Verizon took the #WalkwithFrancis pledge by committing to recycle phones through HopeLine.

Beginning this October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, until December, every no-longer-used phone, charger or battery dropped in a HopeLine bin in one of our local stores or offices will be recycled, with the proceeds going to support Catholic Charities and its Family Peace Initiative.

Pope Francis has said, “All it takes is one good person to restore hope.” By donating to HopeLine, you can help restore hope for the one in three women, one in four men and more than 3,000,000 children in this country impacted by domestic violence.
