Some of you might have received a late newsletter on Wednesday, or no newsletter at all. Please know this was unfortunately beyond our control, but know that we are fully back in business! — Alexis A. Goring

Happy Thursday, people of Laurel! Here's everything you need to know today in Laurel.

Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:

  1. Laurel Dutch Country Farmers Market was closed for a while until recently when it met Prince George's County requirements. As of today, the market is open and resuming its current hours of operation. As a condition of reopening, it must follow the mask mandate and is asking customers to wear face masks when they visit the market. (Laurel MD Connect)
  2. After eight horses suffered injuries and had to be euthanized, Maryland horse racing regulators questioned Laurel Park executives. The Maryland Racing Commission will make a final decision next week on whether racing can resume in Laurel. If given the green light, it will start again on Dec. 16. (CBS Baltimore)
  3. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says Prince George's County has "a substantial transmission rate for COVID-19." However, according to County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, the county is starting to see the numbers decline as it now averages 82 COVID cases per week per 100,000 residents. The omicron variant has been detected in Maryland, but officials said there's been no evidence omicron is in this county. (WTOP)
