Laurel Mall Redevelopment Charges Forward
Mall parking lot demolition could begin in three weeks.
The redevelopment of Laurel Mall continues to gain momentum as the mayor’s office announced that two national retailers and a movie theatre chain have signed on to be part of the project.
In a statement, Mayor Craig Moe announced that the project, called Laurel Town Centre, has received a permit that would allow for the demolition of the mall’s parking lot that could occur within the next three weeks. The demolition permit marks a major milestone for the project because the developer needed it to move forward.
The mall would cease to exist as it is today, according to officials at Greenberg Gibbons Commercial, which recently stepped in to redevelop the mall. The new plan would mean the demolition of the mall and its restructuring as the Laurel Town Centre, similar to Bowie Town Center, with a Main Street-style entrance, a movie theater and mixed-use buildings that would include residential units.
