(Patch Media)

Happy Tuesday, people of Laurel! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note.

First, today's weather:

More clouds than sun. High: 72 Low: 61.

Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:

  1. Trainer Frank Russo and jockey Jorge Vargas Jr. combined to win two of the five Claiming Crown Preview races held Sunday at Laurel Park. The five preview race winners earned an automatic berth to the 23rd Claiming Crown, to be held Saturday (Dec. 4) at Gulfstream Park. This will be the 10th consecutive year Gulfstream will play host to the event. All preview winners will receive $2,500 toward shipping costs. Russo and Vargas won the first two preview races on the program. (Past The Wire)
  2. The City of Laurel is continually committed to reduce landfill waste and promote reuse, repurpose, and recycle. Mayor Craig A. Moe said that Public Works will hold their Annual Fall Ecycle/Paper Shredding Event. Gather up your old, important papers, old electronics, lightly used home goods and certain Styrofoam products, then come down to Public Works (located on 305-307 First Street) on Oct. 16 from 8:00 a.m. to noon. (City of Laurel)
  3. A local resident lost a pet. A cat named Griffin was lost on October 10 in Laurel near 9th and Montgomery Street. Griffin has long, gray hair gray and yellow eyes. He is probably still wearing a blue and pink shark collar around his neck. For more info or to contact Griffin's owner, click here: https://www.pawboost.com/p/7424491 (Facebook)
