🌱 Laurel Woman Makes Deadlift History + DMV Resilience Tour

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Laurel.

(Patch Media)

Happy Friday, people of Laurel! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening locallytoday.

First, today's weather:

Times of clouds and sun. High: 59 Low: 44.

Here are the top three stories today in Laurel:

  1. Tamara Walcott of Laurel, goes to the gym after her kids are in bed 3 to 4 nights a week — and works out for 3 to 4 hours. She trains as a competitive powerlifter. Although it takes a lot out of her, Walcott stays focused on the prize, knowing if she puts her mind to it, she won't give up. As a reward for her relentlessness, in September 2021, Walcott claimed the title of the heaviest raw deadlift in the world by a woman after deadlifting 636 pounds! This feat was accomplished by Walcott without using equipment, nor hand straps to help her hold the bar. (PEOPLE)
  2. Maryland is home to several Amish markets that sell some of the best baked goods in the world! One of the best — and largest — is the Dutch Country Farmers Market in Laurel. There, customers can have their fill of handmade goods, meats, and baked goods! (Only In Your State)
  3. Three City Rooted in Resilience Tour will be coming to the DMV (D.C./Md./Va.) area March 25-27 to celebrate a collaboration in medical research, education, community empowerment and spiritual enlightenment among the Black community. The tour is a collaboration of the Black Greek Letter Consortium, All of Us Research Program, Bowie State University, University of the District of Columbia, The Cobb Institute and Black Women's Health Imperative. It is hosted by the Black Greek Letter Consortium, which is made up of the nine National Pan-Hellenic Council organizations, also known as the Divine Nine. (Patch)
