🌱 Local Author Presents Free Workshop On Gratitude + Laurel Jobs

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Laurel.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, people of Laurel! It's me again, Alexis Goring, your host of the Laurel Daily.

First, today's weather:

Clearing and warmer. High: 58 Low: 48.

Here are the top three stories today in Laurel:

  1. Laurel Park will open its spring meet with a nine-race program Friday. The 22-day spring meet is scheduled to run Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through May 8. A total of nine stakes worth $950,000 in purses will be offered over two weekends during the spring stand. There will be no live racing on Easter Sunday. (Paulick Report)
  2. Laurel resident Shawnta Jackson will present "The Benefits of Gratitude & Positive Affirmations" at Maryland City at Russett Library on Sunday, April 3. Jackson is the author of "The Journal of a Woman with Lived Experiences" and "The Resilience of a Woman." According to research, in 2020, 80% of surveyed participants intended to be more mindful about regular self-care practices after the pandemic and 46% reported struggling to find ways to maintain their physical, mental and spiritual health during the pandemic. This is why Jackson's workshop is important. (Press Release Desk)
  3. Governor Larry Hogan recently submitted a $2.8 billion supplemental budget to the General Assembly that makes key investments in some of his administration's core priorities, including support for police and public safety, an expanded cyber readiness and workforce initiative, and critical infrastructure and public health investments. Gov. Hogan said, "In addition to delivering historic tax relief, we are making critical investments in Marylanders' top priorities, from supporting our police and first responders and advancing priority infrastructure projects to expanding our cybersecurity capabilities." From our sponsor:

Where should you invest as a Laurel resident with a $149,000 nest egg? Thanks to a change in the legal code, there's a new investment Laurel residents need to know about. In fact, Bloomberg asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now and many of them chose it.

This may surprise you, but it's fine art.

Growing your nest egg with art isn't new. Wealthy families like the Rockefellers have done it for centuries.

Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)

Translation: Art could be one of the best investments for uncertain times.

Luckily for you, we found Masterworks. This revolutionary platform lets you invest in art by Warhol, Monet, Picasso without spending millions.

The best part? Anyone from your area can skip their waitlist*.
