He plans to invest the $2 million he won on the $30 VIP Club ticket and not spend a penny. The player, age 47, has a good job is looking forward to a day when he can retire in comfort. (Bay Net)
- It's on to the $200,000 Grade 3 Frank J. De Francis Memorial Dash for newly minted stakes winner Wondrwherecraigis, who tuned up for his return to graded competition with an easy half-mile breeze Saturday morning at Laurel Park. Madaket Stables, Michael Dubb, The Elkstone Group, and Bethlehem Stables' 4-year-old gelding Wondrwherecraigis went four furlongs in :49 over Laurel's main track. (Paulick Report)
- A theater in Prince George's County will help tell the stories of enslaved people in this county who successfully filed lawsuits in the 1700s that led to their freedom. The unnamed play will be based on the book "A Question of Freedom: The Families Who Challenged Slavery from the Nation's Founding to the Civil War" by historian William G. Thomas III. (WTOP)
- Voter-advocacy groups say technology developed since the last political maps were drawn is making the process even more democratic. Beth Hufnagel, redistricting committee chair for the League of Women Voters of Maryland, said interested Marylanders can use free software to draw their own congressional and legislative maps, which Gov. Larry Hogan's Citizens Redistricting group will accept. (Public News Service)
- Yesterday, Governor Larry Hogan announced more than $12 million in federal highway safety grants as part of a statewide focus to prevent motor vehicle crashes and eliminate roadway fatalities. The funds will be dispersed Oct. 1 by the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration's (MDOT MVA) Highway Safety Office to more than 90 organizations and law enforcement agencies.
