Mama/Baby Bus Serves Women of Color +Restaurants Still Struggling

Up and at 'em, Laurel! It's Thursday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on in town today.

Here are the top five stories in Laurel today:

  1. Marshall Weston, President and CEO of the Restaurant Association of Maryland, told C4 and Bryan Nehman on Wednesday morning that it's going to take a lot of work to be done to get back to normal in the restaurant business. There are many reasons why restaurants continue to struggle during the pandemic. (WBAL Radio)
  2. Multiple Maryland and D.C. concert venues are requiring proof of a completed COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test to get in. The Anthem, 9:30 Club, Merriweather Post Pavilion and Lincoln Theatre recently announced that attendees of events at their venues will need to show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19.   3. Your Health Magazine's new "Doctors Near Me" search page was created to help people in Maryland and Northern Virginia find a primary care physician, dermatologist, eye doctor, OB/GYN, family doctor, general practitioner, or any other type of doctor or practitioner near them. (Digital Journal)
  4. Mallory Mpare is using the "Mama and Baby Bus" to make a difference for pregnant people of color in the District of Columbia through a mobile health clinic that brings comprehensive care to parents and babies in wards 7 and 8. Free services include prenatal, postpartum, and general reproductive care. The bus operates every other Friday and also visits the University of Maryland Capital Region Health Medical Group in Laurel. (The DC Line)
  5. Data shows that young, unvaccinated Marylanders are being hospitalized with COVID. Nurses and doctors in the University of Maryland Capital Region Health Laurel Medical Center are caring for a total of 40 COVID-19 patients. Tuesday's COVID stats in Maryland show 629 new cases including 67 younger than 10, 7 new deaths, and 424 people hospitalized. (WJLA)
