Maryland Municipal League Presents Lifetime, and Municipal Achievement Awards at 2015 Annual Convention
Laurel Mayor Craig A. Moe Recieves the Lifetime Achievement award as part of the 2015 MML Annual Convention

Ocean City, Md. (July 2, 2015) – The Maryland Municipal League (MML), representing 157 Maryland municipal governments and two special taxing districts, present Craig A. Moe, Mayor, Laurel with the Lifetime Achievement award as part of the 2015 MML Annual Convention, held at the Ocean City Convention Center from June 28 – July 1. Also, the Municipal Achievement awards were presented to Brookeville, Berlin, and Laurel for city/town spirit.
“We commend the municipalities and government officials who go above and beyond to help us exemplify our mission to strengthen and support municipal government,” said Scott Hancock executive director of the Maryland Municipal League. “Our winners stand out as advocates for municipalities and MML is grateful for all of their support.”

The MML Lifetime Achievement Award honors a current or former elected or appointed official who has demonstrated outstanding service to Maryland municipal government. Craig A. Moe, Mayor, Laurel was honored with this distinction for his role in two areas of public service: municipal government and public safety. Mayor Moe started his public service career with the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department where he held many positions of responsibility and achieved Life Member status after 20 years of dedicated service. Mayor Moe served on the City Council for 12 years and became Laurel’s Mayor in April 2002, and currently holds that position. Mayor Moe served as President of the Maryland Municipal League in 2009-2010.

The awards honor municipalities for their city/town spirit through campaigns, events and other significant initiatives that have been successful and further strengthen communities. The following were recognized:
Small Town Population: Brookeville for the “U.S. Capital For a Day” Commemoration
Medium Town Population: Berlin for the Coolest Small Town in America Initiative and Event
Large City Population: Laurel for the Re-Branding of Laurel TV
The MML Annual Convention is the largest yearly gathering of hundreds of municipal officials including mayors, council members, city and town managers and other municipal staff as well as state elected officials and commercial businesses.The goal of the event is to bring together interested parties to share and learn about municipal issues and improve the operation of Maryland’s local cities and towns. Along with the presentation of MML awards, the convention features numerous networking and learning opportunities for city and town officials.
