Monarch Global Academy receives $3,500 grant from Crayola

Grant includes $2,500 check and $1,000 in Crayola art supplies

Monarch Global Academy, a public contract school in Laurel, received a Crayola Creativity Alive Grant to help expand children’s knowledge through arts integration. The $3,500 grant included a $2,500 check and $1,000 in Crayola art supplies.

“As an International Baccalaureate school, Monarch Global Academy prides itself on integrating the arts in the classroom, whether a science, history or math class,” Principal Donna O’Shea said. “We also appreciate the many art supplies we received, which will help inspire our students’ creativity and imagination.”

Monarch Global Academy will use grant money to fund professional development for teachers to increase their knowledge of ways to integrate music, drama, visual arts, media and kinesiology into the classroom.

Crayola awarded Creativity Alive Grants to 20 schools in the nation that demonstrated interesting creative programs to integrate the arts into the classroom.

Monarch Global Academy, operated by The Children’s Guild, offers an International Baccalaureate education for students in kindergarten through fifth grade, emphasizing transdisciplinary learning and international-mindedness. In addition, the school will offer an information technology curriculum and The Children’s Guild’s Transformation Education, an organizational philosophy that infuses a school’s beliefs and values into the look of the school building, instructional approach, teachers’ mindset and behavior and operating systems. Students from Jessup Elementary, Brock Bridge Elementary and Maryland City Elementary in Anne Arundel County are eligible to attend Monarch Global Academy. The school will grow to serve children from kindergarten through eighth grade in the coming years.
