Here are the top three stories today in Laurel:

  1. The Laurel Police Department is hosting its annual National Night Out today. It is a FREE event that is fun for the whole family! There will be games, music, food, demos and so much more to enjoy. (Laurel Police Department)
  2. Prince George's County police are investigating three separate shootings in proximity to each other that left four people dead and two critically injured. The first incident happened on Village Green Drive near Barlowe Road in Palmer Park before 10:50 p.m. Friday night. Another shooting occurred about a mile away at Ryderwood Court, near Martin Luther King Jr. Highway in Landover around midnight. A third shooting occurred early Saturday morning around 3:25 a.m. in Chillum, at 22nd place near Woodberry Street. (WTOP)
  3. Reid Temple in Glenn Dale last held an in-person service March 14, 2020. But now, the megachurch has reopened its doors for in-person service. Masks were required and every other pew was vacant, but Rev. Mark Whitlock, Jr., said it felt great to see members in-person after 16 months. (WTOP)

  • Mad Science Dinos and Ancient Worlds: Underground Explorers — Dig up dinosaurs and the ancient past! Solve real-life mysteries! Kids learn about archaeology and the techniques scientists use to excavate fossils and long-lost cities. They also study bone fragments, pottery shards, amber deposits, and fossils to understand what they can tell us about history. Camp will follow HCRP Summer Camp COVID safety policies.   • Can you Dig It Laurel? Free Archaeology Camp — The Laurel Historical Society Archaeology Camp will run August 2 to August 6. Open to rising 5-7 graders. Participants will learn about archaeology and native American life along the Patuxent River. Monday is virtual, the rest is on-site.   • Uhuru Quilters Guild Exhibit — Montpelier House Museum presents the latest creations of the Uhuru Quilters Guild.
