New COVID Cases +Students Deliver President Obama Legacy Speeches

Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:
1. Maryland health officials reported more than 200 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 statewide on Wednesday for the first time since May 30. Testing levels are down about 30% since late May and are on a downward trend, according to state data. A total of 14,864 new tests were reported over the past 24 hours. 2. Prince George's County middle school students are competing in this year's President Barack Obama Legacy Speeches Oratorical Contest. Students will deliver abbreviated excerpts of past Obama speeches. Students will be delivering speeches on Aug. 4, virtually at 6 p.m., from Obama's pre-presidential oratory to his farewell address. 3. The City of Laurel has an update about the engineering project underway to repair rain and flood damage to the path and riverbank in Riverfront Park. During the week of July 19-23, crews will be removing and reapplying the asphalt on the path. The path is expected to remain open during this work. (City of Laurel)
