🌱 North Laurel Apt. Fire Displaced 30 People + Storytime & Ice Cream

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Laurel.

(Patch Media)

Hey, Laurel! Let's get you started this Monday with everything you need to know going on in town today.

First, today's weather:

Variably cloudy; not as warm. High: 68 Low: 53.

Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:

  1. An apartment building fire in North Laurel displaced more than 30 people recently. The Howard County Fire Department said that the flames broke out just before 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at three-story apartment building in the 9700 block of Tiger Lily Path. Crews spent an hour extinguishing the flames. The fire damaged 12 apartments in the building. A firewall prevented flames from spreading to other buildings. (FOX 5 DC)
  2. Lael Stables' Chez Pierre kept his perfect record intact by turning back multiple graded-stakes winner Field Pass in the stretch and going on to a 5 ½-length victory in Saturday's $100,000 Henry S. Clark at Laurel Park. The 22nd running of the one-mile Clark for 3-year-olds and up anchored five $100,000 stakes on the second of consecutive Spring Stakes Spectacular Saturdays. (Past The Wire)
  3. The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation has helped open up over 100 new baseball fields all around the country. But the one that just opened in Palmer Park is unique because of its location on police property right next to the old Prince George's County police department headquarters. Police Chief Malik Aziz said that this dream is now "a reality and we know that this will positively impact our youth." The field will be used by teams that play in the Prince George's County Police Athletic League. (WTOP)
