🌱 ‘One And Done’ Program Launched In Laurel + Local Paint Nite
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Laurel.

Welcome back, Laurel! Here's everything you need to know to get this Saturday started off right.
First, today's weather:
More clouds than sun. High: 69 Low: 50.
Here are the top three stories today in Laurel:
- According to Kristin Danley-Greiner, Patch reporter, the city of Laurel launched its new One and Done program on Earth Day Friday. It allows for recycling, trash and compost collection to be done once weekly. With this new program, all households will receive a new blue cart for recycling and a black cart for trash. The new carts roll easily to the curb, provide large capacity for materials and the attached lids help keep contents from blowing away. (Laurel Patch)
- The Prince George's County Police Department is being sued by a 21-year-old man who says officers illegally searched and arrested him without any justifiable reason. On April 3, Umar Ali was leaving an event when he came across a checkpoint along Sweitzer Lane in Laurel. Ali says at the checkpoint, he gave officers his license and registration. Then, when the officers asked if he had a gun, Ali says he said 'yes,' and that he had a permit for it. Officers pulled him out of the car, and they put him on the curb. Ali says he had to receive medical treatment after being put in handcuffs because his wrists were bruised. (FOX 5 DC)
- Trin-Brook Stables, Inc.'s 7-year-old gelding Forewarned, an 11-time career winner, will continue chasing an elusive first victory in Maryland in Saturday's $100,000 Native Dancer at Laurel Park. The 54th running of the 1 1/8-mile Native Dancer for 3-year-olds and up and 34th edition of the six-furlong Primonetta for fillies and mares 3 and older are among five $100,000 stakes on the second of consecutive Spring Stakes Spectacular Saturdays.
