PG Schools Cancel Field Trips to Baltimore As Unrest Spreads

Special education students from Prince George's County who receive services in the city will not have classes on Tuesday.

Classes are canceled on Tuesday, April 28, for Prince George’s County Public Schools students who receive special education services in Baltimore City only.

All PGCPS field trips scheduled for Baltimore are canceled until further notice due to the unrest in the city, school officials said Monday night.

Riots broke out in Baltimore Monday as protests continue over the death of a man in police custody. Freddie Gray was buried Monday, and his family had called for calm in the city. Police say gangs have joined together to destroy property and injure police.

Earlier in the day, the threat of more unrest in Baltimore prompted Superintendent George Arlotto to cancel all Anne Arundel County school system field trips and activities to be held in Baltimore City through May 3.
