🌱 Racial Injustice Art Contest For Students + Pacifier Recall
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Laurel.

Happy Monday, people of Laurel! Let's get this day started off right. Here's what's going on today in Laurel.
First, today's weather:
Cold with clouds and sun. High: 35 Low: 28.
Here are the top three stories today in Laurel:
- The Laurel Arts Council is offering a creative opportunity for Prince George's County students, grades 9-12, to express, through all platforms of art, how racial injustice has affected them. Entries must be original creative works that shed light on an historical or present-day racial injustice. Deadline is Feb. 15. To learn more about the contest or to submit a project, visit this website: https://pgclmp.org/racial-justice-creative-arts-contest/.
- The Elkstone Group homebred Joe (named after President Joe Biden) captured the Maryland Juvenile Dec. 18 at Laurel Park. It provided founder Stuart Grant with an ideal Christmas gift to bestow the colt's namesake, a longtime family friend who also calls Delaware home. Grant said that President Biden has a winning photo from [Joe's] stakes win. Joe, based at Laurel with trainer Mike Trombetta, was entered to make his sophomore debut in Sunday's fourth race. Joe was nominated to the first stakes in Maryland for 3-year-olds, the $100,000 Spectacular Bid, sprinting seven furlongs. It is one of six stakes worth $550,000 in purses that was pushed back to Saturday, Jan. 29 at Laurel. (Paulick Report)
- If you purchased a Mushie & Co pacifier online from Amazon, Mushie's website, or at retailers TJ Maxx, Lil' Tulips, Olivia & Jade Company or SpearmintLOVE, be aware they are recalling more than 333,000 pacifiers because they could pose a choking hazard. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, there is a fine slit on the base of the silicone nipple of the company's FRIGG Silicone Pacifiers that can cause it to detach from the plastic shield and create a choking hazard. If you have one of these pacifiers sold between April and December of 2021, stop using the pacifiers immediately. (Facebook)
