Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:
- The University of Maryland and AT&T have joined forces to develop the Terrapin Upstander Program. It is an anti-bullying effort aimed at analyzing the causes of bullying then implementing tools and resources to help prevent it. The $75,000 contribution from AT&T kicked off in October to align with National Bullying Prevention Month. The plan is to empower students to stand up to negative online behavior, combat cyberbullying, and become Upstander ambassadors within their schools and communities. (University of Maryland)
- Buff Hello, Cynergy's Star, Local Motive, and filly Buff My Boots are among 45 2-year-olds nominated to a pair of juvenile stakes Saturday, Dec. 4 at Laurel Park in Laurel. The $100,000 Maryland Juvenile and $100,000 Maryland Juvenile Fillies kick off the stakes action in the final month of the calendar year that wraps up with the Dec. 26 Christmastide program of six stakes worth $600,000 in purses. - This holiday season, there will be a 5th Annual Holiday Glo Hafla. Co-founder of the Belly Dancers of Color Collective, Adina Gittens-Smith said this event is a "celebration of family, light and love." Gittens-Smith founded Belly Dancers of Color Collective with Laila Rosado. This group is based in Prince George's County. They use a blend of traditional, African and Caribbean movements in this ever evolving form of dance. (WTOP)

- Open Mic Night — Enjoy this event at the 5 Sisters Restaurant. (5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.)
- Fairland Advanced Ride — Wheels rolling at 6:00 p.m. unless someone texts saying they're running a little late. If you are not feeling good, then you do not come to the ride. Normally, this ride covers 10-12 miles at the average pace of 9-10 mph. Due to the fast pace, this ride is more for intermediate/advanced riders. (6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.)
- Backstage Party at Old Glory Harley-Davidson — Enjoy this backstage party with free food, games and more! (5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.)
- Holiday Book Festival — The White House Historical Association is pleased to announce its upcoming Holiday Book Festival Week, a daily event for the week of Nov. 29 to Dec. 3. Each day will feature a theme and a set of authors available to sign copies of their award-winning books. The daily book signings will take place in the Carriage House at 1610 H Street, adjacent to the White House History Shop. (12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.)
- Auricular Acupuncture at MUIH Main Campus — Master's level acupuncture students, under supervision by licensed and experienced faculty, are providing safe and effective auricular treatments. Limit: Six participants per seating to ensure a safe, physically distanced, and peaceful experience. (5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.)
- Italian Small Plates — "Everything From Scratch" is the core of this fun, authentic Italian small plates cooking class. Set in historic downtown Annapolis, Tavolo Di Chef is the ideal place to enjoy an evening. Take a stroll through the quaint city streets, enjoy a guided boat tour on the bay or just window shop along main street or hop in various bars for some late night entertainment. - The Gift of Art Holiday Show — This special holiday show runs for two months. This is the place to find that special gift. Enjoy this exhibit that features all Artists' Gallery members. That's over 25 artists and a wide choice of media! (11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.)

- Laurel Parks & Recreation: Celebrate Hanukkah this year by visiting Granville Gude Park to enjoy our Chanukah Storybook Trail. Thank you to Chabad of Greater Laurel MD for this wonderful project. - City of Laurel - Government: The Prince George's Office of the Poet Laureate is calling for poems to be published in the PGAHC Poetry Anthology, Poets That Dance With Words. They look forward to receiving submissions from poets in Prince George's County and throughout the DMV (D.C./MD/VA) area. The deadline for submissions is Dec. 3.
