Tower Federal Credit Union Names New VP Of Consumer Lending

Tower continues to enhance services by naming Roger Phipps as its new VP, Consumer Lending

[Laurel, MD]—Roger Phipps has joined Tower Federal Credit Union as Vice President of Consumer Lending, coming from a financial institution where it would not be unusual to see Goofy and Snow White waiting in a teller line.

The position at Tower makes Phipps an integral part of an organization that is Maryland’s biggest federal credit union by assets. He will oversee credit cards, lines of credit and auto, boat, and education loans.

Phipps comes to Tower from Partners Federal Credit Union in Orlando, the credit union for employees and cast members of the Walt Disney family of companies. He held various lending positions at the institution during his four years there, including managing indirect lending and credit administration.

Phipps started his career at credit unions when he was 19, joining Central Florida’s Fairwinds Credit Union as a teller. He ascended during his 13 years at Fairwinds to become point of sale lending manager. “I learned how to manage at Fairwinds and how to lead at Disney,” Phipps said.

At Tower, Phipps will expand upon those roles, shepherding a loan portfolio that is just over $1 billion. He plans to “maintain the strong foundation here, while enabling the consumer lending team to be the best they can be for our members.” The addition of Phipps is a strong one for Tower, said Barry Stricklin, Tower’s Senior Vice President of Lending. “He has the experience, skill and drive to make our lending programs even better.”

Phipps has been a credit union member since he was a 17. He grew up in Germany where his father was stationed with the Army and was a member of its credit union.
