Tower Names Al Smith SVP of Member Services

Tower Federal Credit Union has Named a New SVP of Member Services

[Laurel, MD]—Alvin Smith has joined Tower Federal Credit Union as Senior Vice President of Member Services.

Smith is taking over for Richard Stafford who, as previously announced, is becoming Tower’s CEO and president. As head of member services, Smith oversees the administration of 12 branches, Tower’s wealth management unit and its call center. The position is “member-facing,” in which Smith is involved in all aspects of the relationships Tower has with its members.

“I get to combine all of my skills and be close to members,” Smith said. “That’s the best banking position to have.”

Smith has 20 years of retail banking, wealth management and credit union experience. He has extensive experience in banking operations and leading a sales and service culture.

“Al is a resourceful, tenured banker who will help Tower enhance its services to members,” Stafford said.

Smith comes to Tower from Bank-Fund Staff Federal Credit Union, where he was director of retail sales and service. The institution is the credit union for employees of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

Smith’s experience includes leading Bank of America markets in Greater Baltimore and in Washington DC as a senior vice president of its consumer bank. He also oversaw Bank of America’s wealth and investment management, as MidAtlantic Market Executive. Prior to that Smith led the Bank of America branches on military bases and in government facilities.

Smith spent 21 years in the Air Force in various leadership roles; retiring as a chief master sergeant.
