Here are the top three stories in Laurel today:
- University of Maryland students recently participated in Preventing Sexual Assault's first in-person Occupy McKeldin event since 2019. Amanda Sherman, one of the co-events coordinators for PSA, said this event involved her and her co-events coordinator Lily Meeks organizing raffles, speakers, including sexual assault survivors, and therapy dogs. Hailey Chaikin, a senior communication major and PSA co-president, said the main goal of this event is to raise awareness not only among people who already know about the group's presence, but to get through to those who have less knowledge about the topic. (The Diamondback)
- Chez Pierre kept his perfect record intact by turning back multiple graded-stakes winner Field Pass in the stretch and going on to a 5 ½-length victory in Saturday's $100,000 Henry S. Clark at Laurel Park. The 22nd running of the one-mile Clark for 3-year-olds and up anchored five $100,000 stakes on the second of consecutive Spring Stakes Spectacular Saturdays, and was among the first three of the season scheduled for Laurel's course. (Past The Wire)
- Two pedestrians sustained life-threatening injures and another two people were hurt on Sunday during two separate collisions involving the same driver in Prince George's County. The driver hit a vehicle on the 11100 block of Montgomery Road in Beltsville. The driver and a juvenile passenger of the vehicle that was hit were taken to the hospital. A few minutes after hitting that vehicle, the same driver hit two pedestrians. (WTOP)
