- Sergeant Bryan Edwards, a disabled U.S. Army veteran and his family recently moved into their brand new mortgage-free home in Laurel's Watershed community. Sgt. Edwards was wounded in a 2016 firefight during his second tour of duty in Afghanistan. He received a Purple Heart award and spent a year recovering at Walter Reed Medical Center before having to medically retire due to his injuries. (wmar2news.com)
- Footage Society co-owner Nichole Verdejo says her local business, the Laurel sneaker boutique, is like a barbershop. Located off of Route 1, her shop resells upscale sneakers in-store and online through its website and Instagram. The store is owned and operated by people of color. - Claudio Gonzalez earned his 1,000th career victory when MCA Racing Stable's He's a Shooter, ridden by Kevin Gomez, rolled to his third straight triumph in Thursday's seventh race at Laurel Park. He's a Shooter ran seven furlongs on a fast main track in 1:23.80 to win the entry-level allowance for 3-year-olds and up by 6 ¼ lengths. (laurelpark.com)
- One of the zebras that escaped from a Prince George's County farm in August, has been found dead. Maryland Natural Resources Police spokeswoman Lauren Moses said the animal was found Sept. 16 in a snare trap near a field. According to Moses, investigators don't know who placed the snare trap there, but those kind of traps are illegal in this county. (WTOP)

- Prince George's County Police: Six of our officers laced up their running shoes to complete a 90 mile run in honor of the 25th Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Run. It began in Philly and will end in Washington, D.C. tomorrow at the National Law Enforcement Memorial Wall. (Instagram)
- Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad Company 49: Two of the Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad's members were honored to receive two prestigious awards this year. Lieutenant Rajah Rose received the Francis W. Xander Firefighter of the Year Award and Captain Scott Globerman received the George Linnel EMS Excellence Award. (Facebook)
- City of Laurel - Government: The City's Electronics Recycling and Paper Shredding Event is back and available to City of Laurel residents and businesses today from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Public Works facility.
