Happy Tuesday, neighbors! Here's what's going on today in Laurel.

First, today's weather: Humid and partly cloudy throughout the day. High: 93 Low: 74.


Here are the top four stories in Laurel today:

1. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Marvin Gaye's iconic album "What's Going On?"
To celebrate, Raheem DeVaughn is hosting a tribute concert at Wolf Trap this Saturday. (WTOP)

2. Prince George's County has reinstituted an indoor public mask mandate. County Executive Angela Alsobrooks said that masks will be required inside all county government buildings as COVID-19 cases continue to rise. (WTOP)

3. Last Sunday, a walking tour memorialized the first documented lynching in Prince George's County. The Prince George's County Lynching Memorial Project offers tours focused on educating the community about the history of lynchings throughout the county and the importance of racial justice through reconciliation. 4. Governor Larry Hogan recently announced "Don't Wait, Vaccinate," which is a new campaign to encourage parents and guardians to get their children caught up on routine vaccinations prior to the beginning of the new school year. To emphasize the importance of routine vaccinations, Gov. Hogan declared August as Immunization Awareness Month. (Maryland.gov)

5. Last month, Maryland workers celebrated a court victory, which allows them to continue collecting federal unemployment benefits. Representatives of a state hospitality union say the ruling is a lifesaver for the thousands of Marylanders still without jobs. (Public News Service)

  • Red Cross FA/CPR/AED Class — This course will prepare you to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies involving adults and pediatrics, and meets OSHA/workplace requirements. Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a digital certificate for Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED valid for two years. (6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.)
