Meet Miss Daffodil, an adorable little 41lb Bulldog/Pit Bull mix who comes to us from a shelter in Harrisonburg, VA. Affectionately known as Daffy to some, she is about 5 years old and has unique markings on her pretty auburn brindle coat, and cute ears that perk straight up when something catches her interest. Daffodil is a warm and goofy pup who knows how to turn on the charm, and use that irresistible big bully smile to get lots of love and attention.
Daffodil was rescued from a home in rural Virginia with several other dogs who were being used for fighting. She was the breeding dog of the operation, and we believe she was kept in the home and treated more like a family pet than the other dogs who were forced into a terrible, violent life. While she was overbred and viewed by her handlers as a means to profit, she is remarkably well-adjusted and loves people. Daffodil happily greets strangers, and is comfortable in most social situations.

Daffy is a very affectionate dog who bonds closely with her people, and will make a great family dog. She’s good with kids and other dogs, and already knows the rules of home life. Her foster parents allow her to have free roam of their house because she’s never destructive, doesn’t chew or get into things, and is potty trained too. She knows how to “sit,” understands when you tell her “no,” and learns quickly. Her foster parents are teaching her basic manners like sitting and remaining calm before she can go out for a walk or eat her food, which are times of increased excitement for most dogs.
She’s grown very close to her foster dad, Aaron, and has been spending a lot of time with him while her foster mom is on travel. Daffodil follows Aaron everywhere, and when he’s asleep at night she will lay on the floor right by his side, not moving an inch until he gets up in the morning. Aaron takes her on daily walks, plays with her, and has given her regular socialization with the neighbors and their dogs. Daffy even has a little Chihuahua buddy who lives right next door, and she is very respectful and a charming host when friends come to visit.

Daffodil’s favorite thing in the world is cuddling on the couch and enjoying belly rubs. As soon as you start to pet her, she will roll over to make sure you understand that the belly is her priority. She also loves to go on outings and is a great co-pilot in the car. She even makes a funny grunting noise and will snort when she gets excited and knows it’s time to go outside for a new adventure. Daffodil does love to go on walks, but like most dogs with some Bulldog lineage, she is sensitive to the heat and over-exertion, so she’s not going to be your running partner, but loves exploring and playtime.
When I met Daffodil for her photo shoot, she was immediately warm and engaging. We walked around the park to get comfortable and she met other dogs, ducks, and kids with their families. She wanted to greet everyone she met and would occasionally jump up to say hi. Her foster parents are teaching her not to jump, but she’s pretty easy to handle on the leash, and is mostly concerned with smells and barking at the occasional squirrel that comes too close.
Daffy is such a sweet dog and has an inherently good nature. She really deserves a happy ending and a family who appreciates her for the awesome, social pup that she is. She would do well with an active family with kids, or would make a great companion pup for a single person or couple who want a dog who will easily adjust and fit into their lifestyle.
