Weather forecast:

  • Saturday: Partly sunny and humid, temps: high: 80, low: 62.
  • Sunday: Times of clouds and sun, with a high of 81 and low of 61 degrees.

📰 News we're reading

1. Two Students Involved in Weapons Incidents at Montgomery County High School (wfmd.com) — Parents in Montgomery Village should know that two students at Colonel Zadok Magruder High School were involved in separate weapons incidents Thursday morning, one with a knife and another with a BB gun. The knife was confiscated, and a 15-year-old now faces assault and weapons charges after allegedly attacking school staff, with Juvenile Services authorizing his detention.

2. Judge Upholds Stop the Spend Ballot Ruling, Board Says (moderatelymoco.com) — Montgomery Village residents won't see the proposed "Stop the Spend" charter amendment on this November's county ballot after a judge upheld the elections board's decision that it lacked enough valid signatures. The measure would have tightly capped county spending growth and required unanimous council approval to exceed it, which County Executive Marc Elrich argues could threaten funding for schools, emergency services, and other key programs serving your community.

3. MARC Expands Between Baltimore and Montgomery County (92q.com) — Commuters from Montgomery Village who use nearby MARC stations like Metropolitan Grove, Gaithersburg, or Germantown will soon get a direct weekday train link to Baltimore without changing in D.C. Starting September 28, a new run-through service between the Brunswick and Camden lines will cut some trips by up to an hour, with no added annual operating cost to the state.

4. Councilmember issues statement following contentious community meeting (mymcmedia.org) — Public safety in Montgomery Village is under intense discussion after a heated community meeting at South Lake Elementary focused on crime, a recent police shooting, and ICE arrests. Councilmember Dawn Luedtke now says the event fell short on civility and resident input, and promises better-structured follow‑ups while emphasizing both safety and protections for immigrant families in the Lost Knife Road corridor.
